Size: 50-65cm  

Habitat: Distributed around most of Australia's coastline. This bird of prey inhabits rivers, estuaries and coastal headlands. Soars over waterways in search of fish, plunging feet first into the water to snare its prey in its talons.  

Notes: Brown bird with darker brown streak through eye, yellow eye, brown mottling across chest, paler underbelly. Breeds Winter.
